Cross-border and Green Card
In the Balkans you can drive one car through several countries, but not every car may do so. The permit depends on the rental company and the specific car. This page explains which cars can go where and what to watch out for.
1. The permit is per car
Each car’s page lists the countries it may enter. You cannot take it to a country that is not listed.
2. Chosen when booking
You tick the countries when booking; any cross-border permit (Green Card) fee is added to the total and shown upfront.
3. No exit from Turkey
Cars rented in Turkey cannot leave the country. For several countries, rent in a Balkan country.
Step by step
- 1

- 2
Check the car
On the car page see the permitted countries, the permit fee and any drop-off options elsewhere.
- 3
Select the countries

Frequently asked
How much is the cross-border permit?
It varies by company; the fee is shown on the car page and in the booking summary and is included in the total.
Can I enter a country I did not select?
No. The permit only covers the selected countries. Crossing without it breaches the rental agreement and insurance may not apply. If your plans change, ask the company before pickup.
Can I drop the car off in another country?
For some cars, yes: the car page lists drop-off options and their fee. The drop-off country is added to the cross-border selection automatically.
Do I need a visa?
It depends on your passport and the countries you enter. We show a notice based on your nationality when booking; check official sources before you travel.
What should I have with me at the border?
Keep your passport or ID, driving licence, the vehicle registration and the Green Card with you. The company provides the car documents and Green Card; keep them in the car. Country rules can change; check official sources before you travel.
For information only: border rules may change. RentBalkans does not sell tours, accommodation or transfers; permission and papers are the rental company’s responsibility.
